Wolseley Bay Walleye Hatchery and Ponds

For years, Percy Guerin and his helpers have been running a successful walleye rearing operation on Wolseley Bay Road.

Percy and Reg bring in a tagged one.
Spawning Walleye are netted and brought to shore.

Then they are milked for eggs and sperm.
Then they are milked for eggs and sperm, which are mixed together before being transferred back to the hatchery.

Measurements are taken before they are tagged and released. Tags identify fish that are recovered at a later date.
The length and weight are recorded and the fish are tagged before being released back into the river.

Incubating the eggs
Back at the ponds, the eggs are incubated in circulating water for 40-45 days before hatching. The young fry are then raised to fingerlings in the ponds and released into area rivers and lakes.
