About the French River Area

We are concentrating on a small number of initiatives, including phosphorus level monitoring, sewage treatment issues and walleye aquaculture.

Phosphorus testing on the French River

The Lake Partners Program is an initiative of the Ontario Ministry of The Environment. Through this program, we have water from four sites in our area tested for phosphorus content six times a year. Other sites along the French River are also tested by various volunteers. A summary of the phosphorus data is presented here.

Noelville Sewage Treatment Lagoons

The Noelville sewage lagoons are an area of concern for water quality. The Municipality of French River hired engineering firm Trow and Associates to prepare a septage review, which was presented to council at the February meeting of the Committee of the Whole. Unfortunately, the engineer's report contained significant errors regarding lagoon capacity and the state of the receiving waterway was not considered. The response from our Municipal Council confirms that either they do not understand what they are doing or they just don't care about the environment. For details, click here.

Support for the Wolseley Bay Walleye Ponds restocking efforts.

For years, Percy Guerin and his helpers have been running a successful walleye rearing operation on Wolseley Bay Road.

Percy and Reg bring in a tagged one. Then they are milked for eggs or sperm. Measurements are taken before they are tagged and r<BR>

A big thanks to magician Gary Morton for his performance at a fundraiser for the ponds in the fall of 2009.
